An exciting day trip along the Dalsland Canal. Journey through Dalsland's proud industrial history and walk across Nils Ericson's ingenious aqueduct in Håverud. To finish, we enjoy a canal boat cruise through locks that work just as well today as they did 158 years ago.
A day trip by bus and canal boat through the fascinating history of the Dalsland Canal. We visit the industrial heritage sites of Fengersfors, Upperud, and Håverud, ending the day with a classic canal boat journey between Långbron lock in Dals Långed and Bengtsfors. Coffee and lunch are included.
The Dalsland Canal is said to be one of Europe’s most beautiful waterways—a 253-kilometer "blue ribbon" stretching from Töcksfors in southwestern Värmland to Lake Vänern. The lock stations and their 31 chambers function just as perfectly as they did when Nils Ericson created the route in the 1860s. The unique aqueduct in Håverud was a stroke of genius and the solution to a century-long debate.
We set off on an engaging journey through Dalsland’s industrial history with visits to mill towns and, of course, a walk across the Håverud aqueduct. The day concludes with a trip on one of the canal boats from Långbron at Dals Långed to Bengtsfors, where you will experience passing through six lock stations.
